Who Should Apply for GST Registration?
You should apply for GST registration if:
Your annual turnover exceeds:
₹40 lakh (for goods)

You are a freelancer, consultant, educator, or author
You sell through Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, etc.
You want to issue GST invoices
You are voluntarily registering for GST

Documents Required for GST Registration
Before starting the GST registration process, keep the following documents ready:
PAN Card of applicant
Aadhaar Card
Mobile number linked with Aadhaar
Email ID
Passport size photograph
Bank account details (passbook or cheque)
Address proof (electricity bill / rent agreement, if applicable)
Step-by-Step Process to Apply GST Registration Online
Step 1: Visit GST Official Portal
Go to the official GST website:

Step 2: Fill Part-A of Registration Form
Select:
I am a: Taxpayer
State & District
Legal Name (as per PAN)
PAN Number
Email ID
Mobile Number
You will receive OTP on email and mobile for verification.
Step 3: Receive TRN (Temporary Reference Number)
After OTP verification, a TRN will be generated.
Use this TRN to log in and complete Part-B of the application.
Step 4: Fill Part-B (Detailed Information)
You need to provide:
Business details
Nature of business (services / goods)
Bank account details

2. Promoter/ Partnerr - Proprietor Details for GST Registration: What Students Should Know
When registering for GST online as a sole proprietor, the “Proprietor Details” section is one of the most important parts of the application. This section collects information about the individual who owns the business and will act as the primary authorized signatory for all GST-related communications and filings.
1. Personal Information
Students should understand that this section requires basic personal details:

Full Name: Enter your legal name exactly as it appears on your PAN card.

Father’s Name: Optional, but can be filled as per official documents like Aadhaar or PAN.

Date of Birth: Must match the date in your Aadhaar.

Mobile Number and Email Address: Active contact details are necessary as OTPs and GST updates are sent here.
-
Gender and Telephone Number: Gender is required; landline is optional.
All personal information should be accurate and verifiable, as the GST system cross-checks these details against PAN and Aadhaar databases.
2. Identity Information
The GST portal asks for certain identity and verification details:

Designation/Status: For a proprietor, enter Proprietor.

Director Identification Number (DIN): Not applicable for proprietors; leave blank.

PAN and Aadhaar Number: Mandatory for verification.

Citizenship: Only Indian citizens can register as a proprietor under GST; select “Yes.”
These details establish the identity of the business owner and ensure secure access to GST services.
3. Residential Address
The proprietor’s residential address is required for verification and official communication.

Fill in the complete address as per Aadhaar or official proof.

Include PIN code, state, city, locality, street, and nearby landmark.

Use the map tool on the portal to mark your location accurately.
Correct address entry ensures that all official correspondence, notices, and documents reach the proprietor without delay.
As a sole proprietor, you automatically become the primary authorized signatory:

Tick “Yes” for Primary Authorized Signatory.

Upload a passport-size photograph in JPEG format (max 100 KB).
The authorized signatory can file GST returns, respond to notices, and manage all statutory obligations for the business.
4. Details of Authorized Representative
If you are registering as a sole proprietor and will manage your own GST filings, select:

Only select Yes if you want to appoint a GST Practitioner or someone else to act on your behalf for filing returns, submitting documents, or responding to notices.

This field only becomes active if you selected Yes above.
Options:
GST Practitioner → A certified GST professional
Other → Any other person you authorize
Since you are filing yourself, you don’t need to select anything.
3. Enrolment ID
Only required if you appoint a GST Practitioner.
Enter the GST Practitioner’s Enrolment Number (GSTP ID).
Not needed if you manage filings yourself.
Principal Place of Business
The principal place of business is used for administrative, operational, and compliance-related activities. The business primarily operates through online platforms and digital channels. No walk-in services are provided at this location. The premises is used for record keeping, coordination, and official correspondence.

6. Goods and Service
In this section of GST portal, we have to show what goods and service you supply.
If you supply printed books means, you sell and delivery, choose
Printed books
and select what details comes.
if you provide accounting and legal service, search and select it. Like this, you can select all goods and services which you sell, you have to income GST Officer through portal.
and save and go next
7. State Specific Information
If apply fill, otherwise skip it.
8. Aadhaar Authentication
You must use the mobile in your detail as tax payer which is linked with your aadhaar authentication. , when you authenticate it, it will ask to tick authorized signatory
tick it.
After submission, an ARN (Application Reference Number) is generated.
You can track your application status using ARN on the GST portal.
Once approved by the GST department:
GSTIN is issued
Registration certificate (GST REG-06) becomes available for download
